WebsiteStephanie Ford Forrester is a Lakefield, Ontario, based textile and mixed media artist whose work is inspired by the natural world and the changing qualities of landscape and light. The experience of growing up in coastal Canada, and later travelling extensively through Europe and Asia, strongly shapes her creative outlook.
After studying at Mount Allison University’s Department of Fine Arts and the Toronto New School of Art, she worked in the museum field, including at Hutchison House Museum in Peterborough, before returning to art full-time in 1999.
Using her technical skill from many years of quilt making, Stephanie hand-crafts each piece using luminous silks, hand-dyed fabrics, and batiks that meditate on the transitory qualities of nature. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions, fine art festivals, and she has been a participating artist on the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour for over 20 years.
Her recent work incorporates her own photographs of local marshes and wetlands, which are printed, hand cut, and then layered onto painted surfaces to create atmospheric images reflecting the beauty and importance of local ecosystems.
