Garrett Gilbart is a sculptor based in Douro, east of Peterborough, Ontario. They studied welding and fabrication at Sir Sandford Fleming College, earned a BFA from NSCAD University in Halifax, and completed additional studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.

Their practice works with industrial materials including discarded tools, car parts, and structural steel sourced from forests, farms, and scrapyards across rural Ontario. Using a handheld plasma cutter, Garrett cuts steel freehand, working directly with heat, gravity, and resistance.

This process approaches industrial material not as a static resource, but as something shaped by extraction, labour, environmental exposure, and ongoing transformation.
