WebsiteSanbar Art Studios is a collaborative art practice led by sisters Sandi Beange and Barb Sorensen, based in Lakefield, Ontario. Working together in real time, often while connected by FaceTime from their studios, the artists collaborate on every painting, allowing ideas, intuition, and decisions to move naturally between them.
Their paintings explore abstracted landscapes inspired by forests, shorelines, architecture, and quiet transitional moments. Through a slow and intuitive process of layering paint and translucent washes, they build surfaces rich in depth, movement, texture and subtle colour relationships.
Sanbar Art Studios is known for a moody, earthy palette of soft neutrals, deep greys, warm browns, muted blues, and restrained contrasts. Rather than depicting specific places, their work aims to evoke atmosphere, emotional stillness, and a sense of quiet familiarity.
