WebsiteLucy Manley is an oil painter whose work focuses on landscapes in all seasons, often painted en plein air. Many of these small studies and sketches later develop into larger works created in the studio. Her subjects range from rugged wilderness scenes to pastoral landscapes and cityscapes.
Through her paintings, Manley aims to capture the essence and beauty of a scene while expressing her personal response to it. Bold colour and loose, rapidly executed brushstrokes bring energy and immediacy to her work, reflecting the fleeting impressions of the landscape. She currently paints exclusively on a black gesso ground, creating a more powerful and satisfying visual effect.
