Nan Sidler
Watercolour Painting & Drawing
- Artist demonstrations
Since childhood, Nan Sidler has explored a variety of media, though watercolour and graphite remain her favourites. Her passion for the natural world is evident in her landscapes, as well as in her finely rendered portraits, studies of flora and fauna, and still life compositions. Plein air sketches and photographs gathered during Nan’s camping, hiking and canoeing trips often become references for her larger studio works.
Nan combines techniques including wet-into-wet, glazing, sponging, and dry brush in her watercolours. Her realistic drawing style was developed across three years of training in the classic sight-size method. For Nan, the excitement of art making comes not only from capturing an image on paper, but from creating an emotional connection with the viewer and offering new ways of seeing.
She has exhibited widely throughout the Kawarthas and the Greater Toronto Area, and her work is held in private and corporate collections in Canada and abroad. Selections of her work, including the Kawartha Canoe Routes are available at the Canadian Canoe Museum. In 2024, Nan was elected to the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, and her work Summer, Eel’s Creek was selected for the Society’s Diploma Collection.
