WebsiteFaye Jacobs is a Canadian weaver, sculptural textile artist, and teacher with more than fifty years of experience. She began her creative career as a custom knitter for Olympic skiers, later expanding her design practice into the manufacture of professional skiwear and boots.
Faye moved to the United States, where she studied and practiced fiber arts in Boulder, Colorado, and Berkeley, California. After returning to Canada in 1999, she settled first in Peterborough and now lives in Lakefield.
She served as lead hand in the restoration of the Jacquard Loom at Lang Pioneer Village Museum, work that earned her a 2017 Ontario 150 Volunteer Service Award. Faye is also a sought-after workshop leader in papermaking, natural dyes, and specialized weaving techniques, and regularly exhibits and sells her work through textile art fairs and exhibitions.
Working across weaving, sculpture, handmade paper, felt, wearable art, and eco-dyed material, Faye approaches textiles as, “a lifelong spiritual journey, powered by curiosity and revealed by discovering relatable examples from world cultures.” Her work explores the tactile, structural, and expressive possibilities of thread, yarn, cloth, paper, and felt, while weaving remains a central part of her creative process and way of organizing ideas through both two and three-dimensional forms.
Faye continues to create work that reflects her love of material, colour, texture, and the community of textile lovers who inspire her practice.
