WebsiteThomas Aitken and Kate Hyde work from their studio in Warsaw, Ontario. They collaborate on ceramics that unite Thomas’s strong forms and Kate’s interest in colour and surface embellishment. Their work is designed to both practical and visually intriguing. Their whimsical imagery references a variety of sources; including the history of ceramics, theatre, poetry and textiles.
Thomas holds a BFA:Ceramics, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada and Kate received her BA(Hons):Textiles from Middlesex Polytechnic, London, UK. They met whilst studying at the Masters program in Ceramics, University of Wales Institute Cardiff, UK.
Both artists have taught and lectured on art in a variety of contexts, including art schools and museums. They have worked in museums and art galleries as preparators, museum assistants and in education departments. They now work full time creating ceramics from their studio in Warsaw, Ontario.
They have participated in numerous annual juried shows, solo and group exhibitions in Canada, and in Denmark, Australia, U.K, and U.S.A. They have undertaken many private and public commissions. Their work is in public and private collections in Europe, Japan and North America.
